Buffalo cow saved from snare

March 2025
Snare removed before damage was done

A Buffalo cow was seen with a snare around the neck. Hope for Wildlife Helicopter Services was available with funding and helicopter time for the 30 minute journey to Letaba ranch, where the team was quickly able to find the buffalo cow. The animal was darted successfully and was down within 4.5 minutes. After landing we rushed to the cow, where the ground team was ready to cut of the snare. Luckily the snare had not caused any damage. The animal was reversed and successfully released after the removal of the snare. If the snare had been left on the animal much longer it would have most likely started cutting into the skin.
