K9 Helicopter Training For Manyoni Anti-Poaching Unit

August 2025
Why Helicopter Training with K9 Units Matters

Helicopter training with K9 anti-poaching units is not just a frivolous exercise — it’s a lifeline for wildlife protection. In real anti-poaching operations, every second counts. When rangers and K9 dogs are trained to deploy quickly and confidently from a helicopter, it can mean the difference between stopping a poacher and losing an animal.

In August, our Flying for Conservation fund contributed two hours of helicopter time to help the Manyoni anti-poaching team - headed up by Chris Jan from Kilo9 academy - and their dogs gain this vital experience in aerial deployment. Together, we practiced three full rounds of rapid insertion and follow-up tracking, while the helicopter provided aerial suppression — simulating real-world pursuit conditions.

These sessions build critical teamwork, sharpen response times, and ensure that when the call comes, both handlers and dogs are ready to act — fast, safe, and effectively.

Every hour of flight time is an investment in saving wildlife lives. Support like this directly strengthens frontline capability — helping those who protect our wild spaces do their jobs more effectively. You can save wildlife too, by supporting our Flying for Conservation fund here.
