I was born in South Africa, before my family's path took us to Southeast Asia, Europe and the UK, where I finished my studies. Karen Blixen once wrote of waking up in Africa and thinking, "Here I am, where I ought to be." I know exactly what she meant — and eventually, I found my way back home.
I studied International Economics in the UK, and for a while I lived the life that degree was meant for, working as an Economist for HSBC in Dubai, a version of me that wore heels instead of hiking boots.
Then, in 2012, I did something my spreadsheets would never have predicted. I traded macroeconomics for the bush, training as a professional field guide. I spent the next several years guiding in the Sabi Sand, learning to read animal behaviour and sharing the wonders of the wild with the guests I took out. The longer I guided, the clearer it became: showing people that world wasn't enough— I wanted to help protect it, too.
A year-long overland conservation expedition sealed it. Living out of a Land Rover, I volunteered for conservation projects across Africa. It gave me a real understanding of the complexities surrounding the wildlife conservation sphere and what was needed on the ground. Wild Wonderful World was founded off the back of this expedition, to support wildlife conservation projects with the funding and resources they need to protect and preserve Africa's wildlife.
Today, home is KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa where I live with my husband Grant and our daughter Beazie, who is growing up as wild as they come!
My guiding ethos is simple: if everyone fights one corner, supports one project that protects one area, we create hope for success.
