Years-old snare removed from elephant foot

March 2022
Badly embedded snare successfully cut out

This snare had been imbedded for possibly years as we believe this elephant was reported two years ago with a grown-over snare and not seen again since. The snare was imbedded so far into the skin that the vets had to cut very deep to remove it. And good thing we got it out, as a draining tract had ruptured, which could have caused a bad infection. After administering the reversal, the elephant bull already walked much better and we expect a 100% recovery! Because of our donors to our the Rapid Response Fund, we were able to co-fund the vet bills for this operation! The snare was kept for Down to the Wire to create jewellery and awareness to prevent snaring issues like this!

Keen to contribute to rescue operations like this? Donate to our Rapid Response Fund, these donations help us to respond to emergency situations like this quickly & efficiently!

Big thanks to our Wild Wonderful World guests & donors and our partners in this success story: Down to the Wire, Joel from Wildscapes Vets, Gerry McDonald, and African Wildlife Vets.
