White Rhino dehorning - Phinda Private Game Reserve

August 2022
WWW travellers get the chance to contribute to conservation management plan

On a recent safari designed by Wild Wonderful World Safaris, travellers had the opportunity to contribute to the rhino dehorning management plan on Phinda Private Game Reserve in Kwazulu-Natal, South Africa. Our guests were fortunate enough to get hands-on during a dehorning operation that was taking place during their stay. Collecting DNA samples, ear-notching, monitoring breathing and stabilising the 4000+ pound animal during the dehorning - procedures that are part of the rhino management plan and that have proven immensely effective in deterring poaching activity on the reserve. Experiences like this do not come around often, and are only offered as and when timing is appropriate and with the animals' well-being as the highest priority.

Contact us if you want to include a conservation experience in your safari. Conservation experiences are never a guarantee, and your involvement is dependent on favourable conditions on the ground. Wild Wonderful World conservation experiences are first and foremost geared towards the well-being and safety of the animal.
