Two Hyena's saved from snares

October 2020
Wire snares cut from 2 different Hyenas

Sadly another hyena found with a snare was reported in the Sabi Sand Private Game Reserve - the 5th seen in the area. Action was taken to send in a vet who attracted the hyena in with a call up and not one but TWO hyenas arrived, shockingly both with snares around their necks. Both Hyenas were darted and had their snares removed - luckily their wounds were not as serious as the previous hyena de-snaring - their snares must have been more recent. We were thankful to be able to contribute and help save these hyenas from a uncomfortable end.

This project was done in collaboration with Down to the Wire - an incredible organisation that raises money for de-snaring wildlife through making jewellery out of the wires collected from snares.
