April 2023
Perseverance is the virtue of a wildlife vet...

They are amongst one of the most snared species we save, yet hyena are notoriously difficult to relocate after they have been sighted with a snare injury. This adult female was found on Thornybush Nature Reserve, but the veterinary team struggled for several nights to relocate her. After a few unsuccessful night watches at the bait site set up in the general area of the first sighting, the team finally was able to get visual and a successful dart in. It turned out she had two snares around her neck!
