Amandine Walker

Head of Reservations

Born and raised in Belgium, my love for travel was sparked early by family diving trips across the globe. But it was Africa that truly claimed my heart; its staggering wildlife, untamed landscapes and raw, breathtaking nature unlike anything I had ever encountered.

After completing my degree in botany and landscaping, I kept finding my way back to the continent, volunteering in conservation and hospitality whenever I could. Then, during the first Covid lockdown, I got happily stuck in South Africa and never really left. I now live in the Timbavati with my husband, pinching myself daily at the life I get to call mine.

Travel planning felt like the most natural path forward. Friends and family had long turned to me as their go-to Africa expert, and I joined the Wild Wonderful World team in January 2023. It gave me the opportunity to build the expertise to match my new role; extensive travel to our favourite safari destinations (scouting and experiencing lodges firsthand), combined with in-depth destination knowledge and organisational skills led me to run the entire travel planning department, and loving every moment of it.

What drives me is simple: Africa's wildlife deserves to be protected, and sustainable, meaningful travel is one of the most powerful tools we have to make that happen. Every safari I craft is an opportunity to connect people with something truly extraordinary, and to inspire them to care about conserving it just as deeply as I do.

"You cannot leave Africa, Africa said. It is always with you, there inside your head. Our rivers run in currents in the swirl of your thumbprints; our drumbeats counting out your pulse; our coastline the silhouette of your soul." - Bridget Dore
