Apon arrival at Johannesburg International Airport you'll be transferred by light aircraft to Ngala Safari Lodge in the Timbavati. Settle in and enjoy lunch before heading out on your first game drive!
Immerse yourself in the bush on twice daily game drives and bush walks and learn how to find wildlife using track and signs and put your new skills to the test by tracking rhino on foot. On your last night, sleep out under the stars in Ngala's spectacular treehouse!
Today you have the opportunity to meet an anti poaching unit and the tracking dogs that play a huge role in the protection of wildlife in the Greater Kruger area. Find out how pack hounds are being put to work to track down poachers and the efforts involved in training these amazing pooches!
The journey continues are you travel from the lowveld to Kwandwe Private Game Reserve. Explore the natural splendour of Kwandwe on early morning and late afternoon / evening game drives. Head out on a Rhino Monitoring Drive, where you will track rhino with a specialist ranger and tracker team, learn about the habits of this threatened species, the issue of rhino poaching as well as Kwandwe’s own conservation efforts. And keeping best till last - participate in an exciting rhino-darting and notching operation. Darted by helicopter, a microchip is planted into the horns and vets perform ear-notching for future identification - an essential task to ensure the preservation of this endangered species.
Day 10: Departure - Johannesburg, South Africa
Today you say goodbye to the wonderful team at Kwandwe and start your journey home. Fly back to Johannesburg via Port Elizabeth, where you can connect with onward international flights home.
