Itinerary Overview

Day 1: Arrival - Brazzaville, Republic of Congo

From bustling Brazzaville, your charter flight will trasport you to the remote, Odzala-Kokoua National Park where you will transfer the rest of the way by vehicle to Ngaga camp. Meet the gorilla research team to discuss the following days plan to trek gorillas and settle into your new surrounds, listening to all those forest sounds.

Day 2 & 3: Ngaga Camp

Morning excursions at Ngaga centre on Western Lowland Gorilla tracking, as you head out into the forests to find them with expert guides and trackers. A midday rest is followed by further excursions into the forest for bird watching, a walk to discover the forest life or enjoy a river sundowner. Night walks are exhilarating, giving you the opportunity to view the more secretive noctural animals.

Days 4 & 5: Lango Camp

Today you transfer by road through the reserve and Mbomo village (get a glimpse of local Sunday village life!) towards Lango Camp. Enjoy lunch at Mboko camp along the way, before travelling the rest of the way via a kayak on the Lekoli River. Spend the next few days exploring the area on a discovery baï (wet) walk, forest (dry) walks, bird watching, and sundowners.

Day 6: Mboko Camp

Start your morning with a guided wet walk through the baï and a delicious breakfast overlooking the baï. From here, enjoy a scenic drive through the forest, followed by a short walk along a wooden path amidst the trees to get to Mboko Camp. Lunch will be followed by afternoon relaxation or a walk through the forest followed by a river cruise.

Days 7-10: Sangha Lodge, Central African Republic

Onwards on your Congo Basin adventure this morning to the Central African Republic. Departing from Mboko camp, fly to Kabo Airstrip (40mins) where you will transfer to nearby boats and begin the 4 to 6-hour boat journey up the Sangha River, taking you through the Sangha Tri National Special Reserve. Arrive at Sangha Lodge nestled along the Sangha River in time for lunch. Enjoy three full days of activities at Sangha Lodge including;

  • A forest walk to Dzanga Baï
  • Time spent on the research platform observing the diverse wildlife activity around the remote baï
  • Guided morning forest walk and net hunting with members of the Ba’Aka community with time to work on the building of huts or learning about medicinal plants
  • Time with the pangolin researchers and protectors
  • Night activities to explore the wonderful nocturnal life
  • Forest walk through the Valley of Giants, walking amongst some of the tallest trees in the Congo Basin (boat transfer)
  • Afternoon to the waterfalls (boat transfer)

Days 11 & 12: Mboko Lodge & Departure - Brazzaville

After breakfast at the lodge, you will journey 4 to 6-hours by boat back down the Sangha River via Bayanga to Kabo Airstrip, where you will fly back to Mboko Airstrip. Enjoy an afternoon guided forest walk followed by sundowners on the Lekoli River. Spend your last night in the Congo at Mboko Camp. Early the next morning, you will fly back to Brazaville, where you can connect with onward international flights home.
