Overview

The great Migration, Chimps and Gorillas

Explore East Africa's incredibly diverse habitats, from the tallest mountains, vast, rolling savannas to impenetrable forests. See the last of Africa's true big tusker elephants against a backdrop of Mount Kilimanjaro in Amboseli. In the Masai Mara, witness gamelands as far as the eye can see and then farther still, swarming in rich and diverse wildlife and striking African trees. This place never fails to take our breath away. The forests of Uganda and the primates that inhabit them are mesmerising - being able to get up close and witness their everyday lives is an experience afforded to a very lucky few. We'd love to share it with you.

Itinerary Overview

Day 1: Arrival - Nairobi, Kenya

Arriving in Nairobi, you will transfer and fly straight to your first safari lodge in the iconic Amboseli National Park. Land in the wilds with views of Mount Kilimanjaro! Your guide will meet you and take you on a journey through the bush to Ol Donyo Lodge.

Days 2 & 3: Ol Donyo Lodge, Amboseli/ Chyulu Hills National

Ol Donyo Lodge is wedged between Kenya’s Tsavo and Amboseli National Parks in the heart of the Chyulu Hills, overlooking the rolling plains to mount Kilimanjaro. The reserve has been having great success in preserving the iconic bull elephants that are some of the last remaining large tuskers in Africa. Spend your days on safari surrounded by these gentle giants, on game drive, bush walk or on horseback.

Days 4 - 6: Mara Plains, Masai Mara

Today you say goodbye to the impressive tuskers of Amboseli and say hello to the Great Migration! The world famous Masai Mara delivers many attractions, as the reserve is home to an excellent year-round concentration of game, including more than two million wildebeest, zebras and other antelopes that make up the famous Great Migration. Enjoy twice daily game drives and bush walks as you explore this vast wilderness and witness first hand how the Maasai people and wildlife are living side by side.

Option: Float above the plains of the Masai Mara in a hot air balloon and get a glimpse of the migration from above! (extra cost)

Day 7: Hemingways, Nairobi

Following a final morning game drive and breakfast in the Mara, this exciting East Africa journey continues, with an overnight stop in the vibrant Nairobi before flying onwards to Uganda. In Nairobi, take the opportunity to visit the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust's Elephant Orphanage and meet some of their youngest rescued orphans.

Days 8- 10: Ndali Lodge, Kibale Forest

An action packed day of travel will take you from Kenya to Uganda, for the second part of your East Africa Highlights safari. Your first few nights in Uganda will be spent at Ndali Lodge - the perfect base from which to explore Kibale forest and trek chimpanzees! Visit to the Bigodi Wetlands, home to a variety of monkeys and other mammals plus some of the more rarely sighted birds including the White-winged Warbler, White-collared Oliveback and Papyrus Gonolek.

Days 11 - 13: Sanctuary Gorilla Forest Camp, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

Journey into the heart of Uganda's Impenetrable forest! Frequently visited by gorilla families due to its unique location, Sanctuary Gorilla Lodge is where your once-in-a-lifetime encounter with Uganda’s endangered gorillas awaits. Spend time on foot with these phenomenal creatures and learn more about their families, behaviour and efforts to keep them safe.

Day 13 will mark the end of your adventure. Fly back to Entebbe to connect with onward international flights home.
